The management of Manchester City has
denied claims that new manager, Pep
Guardiola is not allowed to raid old club
Bayern Munich this summer.
Bayern’s Douglas Costa sparked the
rumours after claiming that he wouldn’t be
able to move to the Premier League if
Guardiola came calling.
The Brazil international told Globo
Esporte: “Would I be open to City if Pep
called? It’s something he has in his
contract, a clause that says he cannot sign
any players from Bayern.
“I’m in a situation where I could stay at
Bayern for a long time. The club’s
philosophy is to keep players at Bayern for
a long time.
“I’m happy at the prospect of enjoying a
long career here.”
But City has said that such a clause does
not exist, which means Guardiola is free to
poach stars from Bayern – if he is prepared
to stump up a lot of cash.
The 45-year-old has already moved to sign
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay
Gundogan, spending £21million in the
process.
Guardiola is also closing in on a deal to
sign striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,
with the reported figure close to £60m.
